Occupational Health & Safety Policies and Procedures

OH&S Laws and Acts that govern States and Territories are:
  • Victoria OH&S Act 2004
  • New South Wales OH&S Act 2000
  • South Australia OH&S and Welfare Act 1988
  • Western Australia OH&S Act and Welfare 1984 (amended 1990)
  • North Territory Work Health Act 2005
  • Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995
  • ACT OH&S Act 1989 (amended 1996)
  • Tasmania Workplace Health & Safety Act 1995

Under the above legislation, i.e. law, set by Acts of Parliament, employers are responsible and obliged to:

  • Develop a clearly stated OH&S policy for their workplace. Communicate clear objectives and goals to be reached.
  • Provide safety training and clear safety rules so everyone knows what is expected of them.
  • Provide any safety equipment or clothing required to employees.  Establish an OH&S committee to meet regularly and discuss OH&S issues and concerns.
  • Maintain an injury register in order to claim workers compensation.
