Prevention Practices - "The Best Cure"

Appropriate protection

  • Wear gloves, goggles, masks, overalls or hats.
  • Wear shoes with non-slip soles, that provide support and protection to feet, or safety boots if applicable.
  • Always  wear the personal protective equipment that has been issued for the job you are doing.

 


  • Chemical storage
    • Store in well-ventilated area.
    • Label correctly and clearly.
    • Do not mix chemicals
    • Wear protective clothing when handling chemicals.
    • Store away from foods and beverages.
    • Use warning signs.
    • Use correct chemical for job. 

     

    Storage
    • Heavy items should be placed on lower shelves, lighter items higher.
    • Shelving should be safe secure and strong.
    • Ladders and steps should be available and used by workers. 

    Lighting

      Must illuminate entire area to prevent eyestrain, trips, falls and cuts caused because you are straining to see what you are doing.

     

    Correct Maintenance
    • Use warning signs. 
    • Always turn off machines before disconnecting.
    • Regular maintenance checks on machines and appliances.
    • Report all faults immediately.
    • Ensure all gas and electrical appliances and connections are installed and repaired by qualified personnel.
    • Machines with missing or broken safety guards should not be used.
